HOW BOTOX CAN HELP
Many long-term dental and cosmetic facial issues have some sort of muscular component to them which dentists can treat through the use of Botox injections. By using Botox injections to relax specific muscles in the face, our dentist can help treat a wide variety of issues.
- Botox is a great option for cosmetic facial improvements. Botox treatments can help to build up your confidence by smoothing out wrinkles and restoring your face to its younger appearance.
- Botox can also help with dental issues. Certain muscles in the face can put a lot of pressure on the jaw, in some cases causing pain and discomfort. In these instances, Botox injections can be a great option for alleviating pain by relaxing those muscles.

USEFUL BOTOX TREATMENTS FOR DENTISTRY
“GUMMY” SMILE ADJUSTMENT
Many people try to hide their smiles because they don’t like how high their lip rises when they smile, revealing not just their teeth but a lot of their gums as well. Botox can reduce the height of your smiling lip, eliminating “gummy” smiles and allowing you to smile brightly and confidently.
By relaxing specific facial muscles around the mouth, our dentist can change how high your upper lip rises when you smile, getting rid of a gummy smile while still keeping your smile beautiful and natural.
If you are self-conscious about having a “gummy” smile, or a high lip line, Botox treatment could be a great solution for you.
TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT DISORDER (TMD)
The temporomandibular joints are the joints that allow you to move your jaw. TMJ disorders occur when these joints and the surrounding muscles are hindered in some way from working correctly. This can result in severe pain. Botox can help reduce that pain.
By using Botox to relax certain muscles in the jaw, our dentist can help alleviate some of the pain caused by TMJ disorders. This long-lasting pain relief allows you to return to your daily activities, without having to worry about such high pain and discomfort levels.
BRUXISM
Bruxism, or tooth grinding, can lead to many different side effects, such as chipped teeth and jaw pain. Botox helps to minimize the effects of bruxism by:
- Reducing the force of the muscular contractions that grind your teeth.
- Protecting your smile and keep it healthy and pain-free.
- Preventing tooth damage as well as jaw pain.
Do note that this treatment is most effective when used alongside dentist-approved nightguards. Botox can greatly lower the amount of force in which teeth grind together, but a mouth guard is still necessary to protect your teeth and jaw from that grinding.
DENTURES
Getting back your old smile through the use of dentures is fantastic, but the transition to dentures can sometimes be a little uncomfortable. The muscles around the mouth are sometimes slightly repositioned during the denture transition process, which can make dentures a little strange and uncomfortable to wear since you aren’t used to them.
Botox can help with this. Botox is often used to help retrain the lip muscles while your mouth gets used to your new dentures. This helps to improve the comfort of your new dentures, while also increasing the success of your new smile.
EXPRESSION LINES
The appearance of expression lines can leave us disheartened and self-conscious, wishing for our old smile back. Luckily, there are ways to restore that young and healthy smile, and Botox is a great method of doing so.
Certain muscles can make expression lines more defined, causing the appearance of wrinkles. By using Botox injection to relax those muscles, our dentists can balance out or reduce the appearance of expression lines, keeping your skin smooth and wrinkle-free.
Botox is very commonly used to reduce expression lines around the mouth, as well as the eyes and forehead.
CHRONIC MIGRAINES
In some cases, Botox can also be used to help alleviate chronic migraines.
Chronic migraines are frequent and debilitating headaches that cause a variety of symptoms including:
- Sensitivity to light and sound.
- Blurry eyesight.
- Dizziness.
- Nausea.
- Vertigo.
Botox can be used as a treatment option for adults who suffer from chronic migraines. We can use Botox injections to block neurotransmitters that send pain signals to the brain. This reduces the number of headaches patients experience, allowing them to get back to their daily life activities.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING BOTOX TREATMENT
INITIAL EVALUATION
During the initial evaluation, one of our dentists will discuss with you and evaluate the issue you’re experiencing, then plan a precise treatment for your desired results. With our consultation room, you can be confident that our dentist will take the time to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
During your consultation, be sure to let our dentist know if you are taking any of the following:
- Allergy medication.
- Muscle relaxants.
- Blood thinners.
- Sleeping aids.
Any of these medications could affect the treatment process.
INJECTION
Before the procedure, our dentist will clean and prepare the area. Most Botox injections don’t require any anesthesia beforehand, In some rare cases, our dentist may use a topical anesthetic if the injection is in a more sensitive area.
Then our dentist will inject the Botox solution in the correct location. Both of our dentists are very skilled and familiar with the muscle patterns of the face. They know where to place the Botox to give you the results you’re looking for.
AFTERCARE
You can return to your normal activities right after the procedure, although there are some things to avoid doing for the first few hours after you leave our office.
- Try not to lie down for the first three hours after the procedure. This will help prevent the Botox from spreading to other areas of the face and body, which could cause some negative side effects that we’d like to help you avoid.
- Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area immediately following the procedure. Excessive rubbing of the treated area in the first 24 hours after the injection has the potential of spreading the Botox injection to an unwanted area of the face.
DURATION
Botox results are quick, but not immediate, so don’t worry if you don’t see the results right away. You can expect to start seeing the results from your Botox procedure within the first three days after the treatment.
The results of a single Botox injection typically last for three or more months before beginning to fade. If you would like to maintain the effect for longer, make sure to schedule regular follow-up procedures with us.
Before and After
FAQs:
WHY SHOULD I SEE A DENTIST FOR BOTOX?
Dentists have been professionally trained and are experts in facial anatomy and muscular structure. Our dentists have been specially trained in Botox procedures, and use the newest tech and techniques to give you a high-end experience.
Not only that, but dentists can be much easier and more convenient to visit than doctors or plastic surgeons, saving you time and stress while still providing you with the same quality treatment and results.
ARE BOTOX TREATMENTS SAFE?
Botox is not only safe, but has been used by doctors and dentists for decades. It is one of the most common cosmetic treatments in the United States. There may be some side effects depending on whether the Botox spreads from the injection site and on your current medications.
We will go over all the risks involved in your consultation before the procedure.
ARE BOTOX TREATMENTS PAINFUL?
Botox treatments typically don’t cause much pain. The injection needle is very small, and most patients describe the experience as a slight pinch.
The level of discomfort during your procedure can vary depending on what area is being treated. In these cases, our dentist may use a mild topical anesthetic to make your treatment as pleasant as possible.
If you would like, we are happy to apply a topical anesthetic before the procedure for any injection location. Just let us know when you come in!
HOW FAST WILL I NOTICE RESULTS?
Botox results are not immediate, and it will take some time for the results to appear. Results typically begin to show somewhere between one to three days after the treatment, and you’ll be able to see the full results within the first 30 days.
HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?
The length of time that Botox results last can depend on several variables such as:
- The area being treated.
- The issue being treated.
- The size of the muscles being treated.
While these variables may affect how long results last, Botox results typically last for three or more months before they begin to fade and follow-up treatments are needed.
If the issue you’re seeing us for requires multiple treatments, you can schedule a follow-up appointment with us during your visit.
HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX COST?
During the consultation with our dentist, you’ll go over the cost, as well as any other questions you might have.
If you are considering a Botox injection, but aren’t quite sure yet, be sure to schedule an appointment with us for a consultation, and one of our dentists will be happy to go over the cost and procedure with you.
